While everyone was talking about Pride and Prejudice, I was living for Bride and Prejudice! It was a Bollywood take on the story with some amazing songs and dance numbers. Definitely a good adaptation of the story to check out for entertainment.

The giant house is real, it's called Chatsworth house and the paintings on the ceiling etc are all real too, you can visit it 😊 I went as a kid once with my family

You should definitely watch North & South. It’s a 4 episode BBC miniseries from 2004 and I feel like it goes hand in hand with P&P as an obsessed over period drama. It’s so brilliant!

But they often still had aunts and uncles marrying nephews and nieces and cousins marrying for a few decades after him when it finally became far more taboo. His studies world have been taking place at the same time this book was based and written. Also they called any relation that wasn't parent(or ancestor of any kind), sibling, it aunt and uncle. Mr Darcy’s house is chatsworth house it belongs to the Duke of Devonshire one of the longest running peerages and was built by Bess of hardwick who was the richest woman in England other than the queen in Elizabethan England (Elizabeth the first), it is located in my home county of Derbyshire and we go up there during the summers sometimes to watch movies at the outside theatre nights they also have a sculpture fair and a Christmas fair, the Duke of Devonshire is a patron of the arts and donates a lot of money to art schools in the uk, just fyi ❤ because you loved the house so much, you can go in the house and the mr Darcy head sculpture is in the gift shop❤😊

Speaking of Rosemund Pike, I so wish you guys would review Wheel of Time. At face value it does not appear to be on brand for Pink popcast but you two are the only reviewers who could see it wholly and not though the myopic sci-fi/fantasy male-centric nerdom view

Silly point, but Miss ___ would be the oldest unmarried sister. The rest would be Miss. first name.

They don't delve too deep into it, but Darcy's motivations for trying to nip Jane and Bingley in the bud was that, since Jane wasn't displaying signs of being as into Bingley as he was into her that Darcy could easily identify, he simply assumed that this was a repeat of the Whickham fiasco and that naive Bingley was going to get his heart broken by someone who was only after his money.

There's another Austen movie adaptation hinting at what can happen to women when the man of the house dies - Sense & Sensibility. The women are at the mercy of (male) relatives and what "allowance" they're willing to provide them with, often having to leave the house/estate they grew up in. Finding marriage would have been harder bc of the lack of funds for a dowry. The Bennet sisters also received sub par education so they wouldn't have been able to work as governesses (a somewhat respectable work in comparison) and might have to resort to cheap labor and/or marrying the first man who would have them. Different times for sure

Oh noooooo….i think y’all may have watched the version where they cut off the last scene (Netflix?) but there’s a scene where Elizabeth and Darcy are married at his McMansion and it’s adorable. When you two have a chance, gotta check it out - so cute! ❤

This movie is so much fun! And well done of course, i'm glad you had fun too. I understand being alittle hesitant to watch it, but everytime you do, it's so good and heart warming! It's a beautiful peace of art that is also a feel good movie.

Some fun facts from someone who once ate, slept, breathed this movie for a whole month as a teen: The "we're the only two people in the room" part of the dance was inspired by Keira and Matthew practicing the scene together by themselves. Rosamund Pike (Jane) and Simon Woods (Bingley) dated when they were in university, and iirc broke up a few years before they filmed this. Simon has since come out as gay and has a husband! Two couples began dating after meeting on this film: Keira and Rupert Friend (Wickham) and Rosamund and the director Joe Wright.

‘But I’m a Cheerleader’, ‘Saved,’ and ‘Juno’ were really influential in my teenage years. I don’t know if I actively thought about their messages or just naturally took in the themes through osmosis, but I am glad they were there to shape me.

Before this came out, my favourite Jane Austen movie was Sense and Sensibility from 1995. (Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, hello?!) While not as gorgeously shot as Pride & Prejudice, I still think it's worth a watch, if you're interested in more from Austen. Also seconding Emma, though I'm biased towards the 1996 version.
